The Our Canada Awards 2016

Each year, the Our Canada Awards celebrates students' vision of Canada.  

Student submissions can be from any discipline and in a variety of formats (e.g., artwork, video, poster, essay, rant).  

The submissions range from a local to personal focus, which highlight Canada's people, history, geography, culture and/or society.  The Our Canada Awards are open to all students (JK - Grade 12) in the Halton District School Board.

Imaginaction is looking for schools to become Fair Trade designated by June 30, 2016.

"Fairtrade Canada
Fairtrade empowers millions of farmers and workers in the Global South by providing a Fairtrade Minimum Price for their product and a Fairtrade Premium that they can use to invest in their businesses and communities such as improvements to education, health care and overall quality of life. Products include bananas, coffee, cocoa, tea, sugar, flower, soccer balls and many others."

ExploraVision Science Competition is Quickly Approaching

Teams of two to four students are challenged to brainstorm and design innovative technology 20 years in the future.  To prove the feasibility of their technologies, students simulate scientific and engineering processes to outline how they plan to test their ideas. Deliverables include a written report and student-designed website.

Open to all grade students.

EngAGE at Queen's University in Summer 2016!

EngAGE (the Queen’s Engineering Academy Guided Experience) is an engineering-focused educational summer program that exposes you to the main engineering fields of Chemical, Civil, Electrical & Computing, and Mechanical engineering.

EngAGE presents students with a broad engineering overview, using lab facilities and thought-provoking projects to inform and engage students without being technically overwhelming.

The program runs from July 18th to August 19th.  The residence program includes: on-campus residence with three meals/day, full time supervision and supervised activities each evening.

Oratorical Contest

Optimist Club of Oakville presents its annual oratorical contest.

The topic this year is "How My Best Brings Out the Best in Others".

Prepare a 4-5 minute speech on the above topic.  Further information and rules can be found on their website here

1st Place: $500.00
2nd Place: $350.00
3rd Place: $150.00

Grade 11 Waterloo Unlimited Program!

Grade 11 Program: Theme of Design: March 14 - 18,  2016 (March Break for many schools) 

From engineering and the environment to science fiction and virtual reality, students will explore the theme of "Design" across disciplines.  Attending lectures, seminars, and workshops on the University campus, they will join a community of like-minded high school peers from across Canada as they learn the Design Process and its application.

Program fee: $500 includes meals

Supervised overnight shared hotel accommodation: $300
