Summer Discovery Online

We’re planning to offer amazing online courses in Business, STEM, Medicine, Leadership, Psychology, and more.

This summer, we invite you to join our online community.

We are bringing our pre-college university programs to you - online.  You'll get amazing academic courses, the same elevated level of instruction, and lots of activities that will be both interesting and useful for college applications.

We are collaborating with our university partners and faculty to create a unique academic experience which combines world-class academics with community, college preparedness, and career exploration.

After more than 40 years of experience and changing more than 100,000 lives on campus, Summer Discovery has written the book on the pre-college experience.  We believe that academics is the core pillar, but not the only part of the pre-college equation.

Stay tuned for more information about spending your summer with us - virtually.

From our family to yours, we wish you good health and hope you and your loved ones are staying safe.

Grade 11 Girls On-line Hackathon Challenge

This year we’re shaking things up and hosting an online hackathon challenge. In groups, your task will be to create a website, app, 3D model, or digital design that can help society combat COVID-19. You can focus on anything from solutions for prevention, testing and first responders, to developing ways for people to stay connected, learn online, and get access to financial or emotional support.

Event Details

Date: May 4-8 2020

Cost: $20

Where: We will be hosting most of our content on Zoom- Once you register, we will send you an access code for the zoom sessions

Schedule: Upon your registration we will send you a detailed schedule for the week. Each day will have a different webinar or workshop that you will attend (roughly 1-1.5 hours a day), and then time for you and your team to work on your design challenge. We’ll end the conference with a virtual showcase of everyone’s idea and a Q&A with current female engineering students.

How do teams work? We will be creating the teams ahead of time to make sure there are even numbers. If you have a friend that is also registered you can request to be placed in the same group by sending us an email at wie@uwaterloo.ca

What do you get out of the conference? This conference will give you the opportunity to learn from different engineering faculty, staff, and students from the University of Waterloo. You will have a chance to explore different engineering fields, learn new tech skills and apply those skills to your design challenge. At the end of the conference, everyone will receive a small swag box with a certificate of completion. The top two teams for the design challenge will also win individual Arduino kits!

This is an application based program and there are limited spots available!
