Grade 11 Girls Conference - University of Waterloo

 

Every year, Women in Engineering provides an opportunity for grade 11 female students to participate in different workshops, meet engineering students, compete in a design competition and learn more about student life at Waterloo.

From April 29th to May 1st participants will get to experience:
  • Interesting webinars delivered by university of waterloo engineering professors and staff. Through these webinars, you will discover the variety of engineering careers, some amazing things engineers do and learn about what your life as an engineer could be like. 
  • Student panel discussion where you can chat with current female engineering students and our St. Paul’s Residence Life Coordinator. This is your chance to ask them any questions you might have about engineering, student life, campus life and more.
  • Participate in an online design challenge/hackathon
  • Learn the basics of UX design, wire-framing an app, tips on creating a website and more!

Catalyst Summer Program

 


The Catalyst Summer Program is a 2-week program that offers a unique, interdisciplinary approach to the “traditional leadership program”. Drawing from the University of Waterloo’s strengths in engineering, science, and innovation, high school students develop leadership skills within a community and problem-based context - with real opportunities to put new skills to practice!

This program is planned to run virtually for Summer 2021

Go CODE Girl is a free program from the University of Waterloo that provides an exciting opportunity for girls in grades 7-10 across Ontario to learn about the exciting world of coding and software development and discover opportunities in computing and engineering fields.

Michael Smith Science Contest

 

The Michael Smith Science Challenge is a bilingual national competition written by students in Grade 10 Science or lower (who has not taken a Grade 11 science course in Quad 1 or Quad 2). It emphasizes logical thinking and covers material in the science curriculum common to all provinces. It is named in honour of UBC’s Nobel Prize Winner Dr. Michael Smith and is sponsored by the UBC Faculty of Science. Prizes are awarded to the top students (and their teachers) in each province, territory, and nationally.
