What is SEEQ?
The
Summer Enrichment Experience at Queen’s (SEEQ) is a non-credit enrichment program and university experience for students who are looking to broaden their knowledge and challenge themselves academically, as well as get a chance to experience life as a Queen’s University student while meeting like-minded peers from across Ontario, and beyond.
New for 2013:
We are offering two weeks of SEEQ in August, so you can choose to attend one, or the other, or even both!
We will be offering a bridging weekend between the two weeks which involves an excursion to our nation’s capital city, Ottawa (a great option for students travelling from across Canada or internationally)
We’re shifting away from the "themed course" model from last year, and each week you will focus on one topic of interest in depth, for 20 hours, rather than two courses
We are adding in a half-day of workshops, guest speakers, and presentations that will enhance your Queen’s University experience
This year, courses will wrap-up by Noon on Friday and after a shared lunch, we will offer an Open House for parents and families, with departure anytime between 1:00 and 3:00pm
Local students
can attend without the residence option for a reduced fee. This includes the opening night event, and dinner and activities on Thursday evening.

Dates and Fees for 2013 SEEQ Program
SEEQ Week 1 August 11-16, 2013 $750.00 CDN
SEEQ Week 2 August 18-23, 2013 $750.00 CDN
The residence program includes 5 nights’ accommodation, all meals, evening activities, guest speakers and workshops, and full supervision.
SEEQ Local Students $300.00 CDN per week
SEEQ Weekend* August 16-18, 2013 $400.00 CDN
*SEEQ Weekend is only available to students attending both weeks. The weekend fee includes return travel to Ottawa, accommodation and meals, and museum entrance costs.
We accept Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Debit Card (Interac), certified cheques or money orders. Fees are in Canadian dollars and do not include travel.

What you will learn
Several courses will be offered each week, representing different university disciplines. Each course will be taught by graduate students and community professionals, supported by university professors. You will spend 20 hours studying the topic in depth, which will include listening to lectures, completing activities, preparing group work, exploring labs and facilities, hearing guest speakers, taking field trips, and conducting hands-on experiments using state of the art equipment and facilities.
Courses will be age and grade appropriate but will also
challenge students to learn about new topics and apply what they learn. Students will be in two groups: those who have
completed grades 7-8 and those who have completed grades 9-10 (i.e. going into grades 8-9 and 10-11 respectively) to ensure that content is appropriate.
Courses for 2013 include: Computing: Robotics and Programming, Creative Writing, Metallurgy, Physics of Art and Music, Pathology and Molecular Medicine, Abnormal Psychology and Photographic Media.
The weekly schedule has students in class on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 9am to 3pm. On Wednesday, the morning will consist of special guest presentations and campus tours, with classes in the afternoon. On Friday, classes will run 9am to Noon, followed by a group lunch (probably an outdoor BBQ) followed by an "Open House" for parents and families to explore the student’s work and the university.
