OSSTF Student Achievement Award



OSSTF/FEESO invites student writers and artists to submit creative work exploring this
year’s theme:  “One Strong Woman”. Judging will be held at the school, District, Regional
and Provincial levels. Nine provincial winners will be awarded $1000 each in prizes and
will be invited to our Annual General Meeting in March where a video showcasing their
work will be screened.

Students who wish to apply must submit their completed application to Ms. Patterson  7 days prior to due date at 4:00pm. (completed applications must be received by OSSTF Awards Committee by November 16, 2019 so due to PCC November 8, 2019).

Math Enrichment



Are you a student in grade 10 to 12, who is interested in Mathematics and are looking to challenge yourself? Then this is the program for you! Please have a look at our poster!

Participants will work together with professors and members of the department on interesting problems from a wide range of fields within mathematics. The sessions will be very informal and the emphasis is on developing problem solving skills while having fun exploring interesting puzzles and problems.

Weekly sessions run on Tuesday evenings 6:30-8:30pm in Room DH3055. 

The UTM Math Circles meet for 10 weeks each spring (late January to early April) and 10 weeks each fall, (late September to early December). Have a look at each tab for the exact dates.

If you have attended the UTM Math Circle in the past, you can attend again. There will be new topics, new problems and new people (both faculty and students) for you to meet!

If you are new to the UTM Math Circles, you should fill out a  registration form and email the signed form to Marina Tvaladze at marina.tvalavadze@utoronto.ca.

Registration is limited to 20 students, so register early! There will be a wait list if needed.

Students are also required to obtain a recommendation for participation from either their high school math teacher or guidance counselor. You will find a section for this on the  registration form.

Oratorical Contest


The International Optimist Oratorical Contest begins at the Optimist Club
Level and continues through the Zone, District, Regional, and finally
International levels, with cash prizes and scholarships awarded at
most levels. The ultimate winner of the International Competition will
accumulate scholarships totaling $22,500.00! 

The topic this year is: Just
iMagine a World without Boundaries. 

Entrants must be under 19 years of age (as of October 1, 2019) and have not yet graduated from high
school.

Essay Contest



The topic for our Annual Optimist Essay Contest for 2019-20 is: 
Is Optimism the Key to Achieving the Dreams you iMagine? 

This contest is open to students in Grades 9 through 12 attending school in Oakville,
under age 19 (as of October 1, 2019) who have not yet graduated from
high school.

Entries should be between 700 and 800 words in the format specified in the contest rules. Prizes for the top 3 winners at the Club level total $1,000 and the winner continues to the Optimist District
competition. The winner at that level will receive a $2,500 scholarship.

High School Essay Contest

The Bachelor of Humanities invites submissions for its sixth annual High School Essay Contest. All High School or CÉGEP students are invited to submit an essay, of no more than 1000 words in length, answering the following question:
“What is Literature for?”

Eligibility: All high school and CEGEP students
Prizes: Winner – $500; Runner-up – $250
Deadline: 1 March 2020
